Dementia and the Insanity that is our Political Landscape
Why do we have a ruling class consisting of so many geriatrics?
A colleague of mine sent me something the other day referencing Donald Trump not being able to say the word Venezuela. It was a funny bumbling on his part, but my friend sent it more to try and point out that maybe Trump is losing a cognitive step. He, of course, is an ardent Biden supporter, but more specifically, an avid Trump hater. Even though this seemed to be more of a fumbling of words rather than a noticeable cognitive decline, I found it interesting that he would even send it as some sort of defense of Biden. It’s like judging someone for eating something unhealthy, when you yourself are already fat.
How am I supposed to ignore what my eyes and ears are telling me about Biden, simply because Trump might also be showing signs of his age? That makes no sense. How about. we address the elephant in the room and stop having 80 year olds compete to be the Commander in Chief?!!
Say what you will about Donald Trump. I am no fan of his, nor do I find myself on that side of the political aisle. With that being said, anyone who is being honest must admit that Biden looks dramatically older than Trump. He doesn’t just fumble words at times, he falls up stairs, trips on stage and generally looks lost at times, all the while moving exactly how you would expect an 80 year old to move (extremely slow and without a purpose).
I find it odd that the media that has so coddled Biden to this point simultaneously tries to downplay his missteps and obvious signs of dementia while also trying to highlight any time Trump misspeaks as if to suggest, sure Biden has lost a step, but looks like Trump has too! Like that somehow is going to make the country feel better about reelecting Joe Biden? The corporate media is fully complicit and their actions fall somewhere between gaslighting the American people and elder abuse. It’s the reason they are becoming more and more irrelevant to those who want actual news and journalism. They are also a huge reason Substack is so popular, so I guess some good has come out of this.
I’m not sure where we go from here. Fortunately, when you’re trying to drive old people out, Father Time has a hand in making that happen for you. The question is, will they release the reins on their own or will they literally die in office like Diane Feinstein? Somebody put it very well when asked the question what’s something wrong in society that people don’t really talk about? The response was that people in their 70s and 80s would never be hired for many positions because they would be inept due to their advanced age and yet they are almost exclusively running the country. Funny and yet profound. Why do we allow this? Hopefully something changes soon for the better.
